What is a disc golf bag tag?

I’ve seen them out on disc golf courses, but don’t know much about them.

Well basically, they are used as a challenge game. A disc golf club or group will sell numbered tags to its members (perhaps just for fun and bragging rights or perhaps so the club can earn some money). Each person who has a tag will hang it on his or her disc golf bag. When another player with a higher numbered tag sees your tag, (s)he can challenge you to play. Assuming it is a reasonable time to play, you are generally required to accept the challenge. If the person with the higher numbered tag wins, (s)he gets to trade tags with the person who had the lower number. You do it for a few weeks or months and eventually see who has the lower numbered tags. Those people are kind of winners of a sort.
