Do you have a bike rack roof damage a car?

I have a little VW golf and want a bike rack. However, I'm afraid damage the paint in contact with the chassis of the feet. I am also bumps on my metal roof is so thin. Finally, I am afraid of damaging the plastic window frames where the straps connect. These concerns are valid?

I have a roof rack to mount my VW Passat. I use it occasionally and not to damage the ceiling. I also have a hitch mounted rack that I use most often. It takes less time to put in the Car (2 minutes), and is easier to lift bikes on the grid. Most of the time when I go somewhere (95% of the time) I put the bike inside the car does not get wet and dirty road and the dirt is less likely to be stolen or damaged. A VW Golf is ideal for bikes, the telescope back makes it easy to transport the bike in the car
